True Mirror-Leveling (PFAS-Free) — No Complicated Formulation

The launch of DPM-4772 fundamentally changes the technical path of conventional mirror-leveling, marking a major innovation in DPM’s leveling-agent technology. Its significance goes far beyond “a new product release” — it resolves, at the root, the long-standing technical contradictions and application pain points of the industry.

1.1 Pain Points of Conventional Mirror-Leveling Solutions

Conventional short-wave leveling (microscopic smoothness, anti-cratering) relies on silicone-based or fluorine-modified additives. The former offers strong foam stabilization but may impair recoatability; the latter contains PFAS, is costly, and carries significant environmental risk. Long-wave leveling (macroscopic flatness), on the other hand, relies on acrylate additives, which deliver good compatibility and low foam stabilization but are weak in anti-cratering and short-wave leveling.

To achieve a mirror finish, formulators must add two additives at the same time and repeatedly fine-tune the ratio to balance performance — risking compatibility issues and cumulative foam stabilization, while adding warehousing pressure and shrinking room for price negotiation in procurement.

1.2 DPM-4772: The Single-Additive, Dual-Function Solution

DPM-4772 chemically bonds silicone segments and polyacrylic segments directly into a silicone-modified acrylate copolymer (SMAC) — a single, well-defined hybrid macromolecule that delivers both functions in one product.

It resolves long- and short-wave leveling at the source: the compatibility required for long-wave leveling and the substrate wetting required for short-wave leveling no longer stand in opposition — they achieve intrinsic synergy through molecular design.

2. Performance Advantages of DPM-4772

2.1 Breaking the “Impossible Triangle”

Coating leveling agents have long faced an “impossible triangle” — anti-cratering, low foam stabilization, and environmental safety are difficult to achieve simultaneously:

✓ Silicone types: strong anti-cratering, but high foam stabilization and possible impact on recoatability.

✗ Fluorine-modified types: strong anti-cratering, but contain PFAS and are costly.

✓ Acrylate types: low foam stabilization and environmentally friendly, but weak anti-cratering.

DPM-4772‘s breakthrough:

✓ Anti-cratering performance ≥ fluorine types.

✓ Foam stabilization ≈ acrylate types (far lower than silicone types).

✓ Environmentally safe: PFAS-free, organotin-free, aromatic-solvent-free, and does not affect recoatability.

2.2 Structural Advantages & Mechanism

DPM-4772 overcomes the microphase separation that can arise from conventional physical blending or simple copolymerization, ensuring that the silicone’s superior surface migration and the polyacrylate’s good compatibility/leveling work together evenly, with synergy maximized. Chemical bonding is more stable than physical adsorption, reducing the risk of component separation during storage or use.

DPM-4772‘s unique hybrid structure enables it to act effectively at different stages of coating drying. The polyacrylate moiety provides good early-stage compatibility and flow (favoring long-wave leveling), while the silicone moiety spreads rapidly across the surface, lowering surface tension and effectively eliminating minute surface defects (short-wave leveling / anti-cratering).

3. Performance Breakdown of DPM-4772

3.1 High-Temperature Resistance & Recoatability

While ordinary silicone leveling agents may decompose, fail, or migrate excessively at high temperatures, DPM-4772 retains excellent leveling and adhesion under both 170 °C and 260 °C — proving the thermal stability of its molecular structure and its strong potential in high-temperature applications (e.g., coil coatings, high-durability industrial paints).

Although DPM-4772 contains silicone, its special chemical bonding structure effectively suppresses excessive silicone migration and accumulation at the surface, avoiding recoat-adhesion problems caused by silicone contamination.

3.2 Superior Anti-Cratering & Fast Leveling

On difficult substrates treated with anti-oil agents (low surface energy), DPM-4772‘s anti-cratering performance surpasses fluorocarbon competitor 3600 and ranks among the top in fast-leveling comparisons, effectively preventing application defects.

✓ Anti-cratering: DPM-4772 > 3600

✓ Fast leveling: DPM-4772 ≈ 333 > 3600 > 3777 > 358N

3.3 Excellent Low Foam Stabilization

Across various systems, DPM-4772‘s foam stabilization is far lower than silicone leveling agents and equal to or better than acrylate and fluorine-modified types — critical for systems requiring good air-release performance (e.g., high-gloss clear coats, foam-free industrial paints).

3.4 Broad Compatibility

DPM-4772 exhibits excellent compatibility in acrylic, UV, alkyd, and unsaturated polyester (PE) systems, and good compatibility in saturated polyesters — outperforming several competitors overall.

3.5 Excellent Heat-Storage Stability

After 7 days of oven aging at 50 °C across six major systems, formulations containing DPM-4772 showed no change in viscosity or transparency, demonstrating excellent long-term storage and in-use stability. The product remains stable during warehouse storage, transport, and on-site customer stocking — no degradation, easy and reliable to use.

3.6 Environmental Profile

DPM-4772 is explicitly free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), avoiding the environmental risks posed by these “forever chemicals” and meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations. It also contains no organotin and no aromatic substances.

4. Conclusion

Conventional approaches rely on physical blending of additives with different chemical structures; DPM-4772 achieves a performance leap through precise molecular-level hybrid design, reflecting advanced R&D capability.

Amid the global wave of PFAS restrictions, DPM-4772 — “fluorine-free yet outperforming fluorine” — provides a compliant replacement solution, opening new possibilities for demanding applications.

For formulation developers, DPM-4772 means:

1. No longer sacrificing other properties for the long/short-wave balance.

2. Giving up PFAS-containing fluorine additives without compromising quality.

3. Stronger technical confidence in high-temperature, recoat, and demanding-substrate scenarios.
